That's a wrap - Phase five and the final concept

Since Phase 4, more sketching and modeling helped to further define the concept and develop the final form.

The system is comprised of four components: a bio-tattoo that monitors the user’s stress levels and communicates to the user that they are becoming stressed; a device worn around the neck that provides auditory stimulation to help reduce stress, by playing natural sounds; a charging base; and a cover for the base that provides a tactile and olfactory experience. Together, these devices provide for a system that monitors, reacts, notifies, and responds to the user’s stress.

The bio-tattoo simply monitors and informs the user, allowing the user to take control of the situation and decide if and how to reduce their stress. They can choose to use the other components as they please.

The system components can be used in combination to provide a holistic experience, or individually as the user sees fit.

Grounded is inspired by biological forms, with the arms dangling down similar to cats. The case is inspired by rainforest creatures.

The housing of Grounded is made of repurposed climbing rope. The electronic components are contained within the rope, and the brass parts clasp over top.

The charging base and cover sit on the desk, to keep it convenient for the user. Different colour climbing rope represents different environments - rainforest with bright coloured rope, ocean with blue, and forest with green.
